By decision of the Senate of the University of Zagreb dated 13 February 2007, the Čakovec College of Teacher Education was merged into the Faculty of Teacher Education, initially operating as an affiliate institution and subsequently evolving into its current status as the Faculty of Teacher Education – Čakovec Branch. The Čakovec Branch offers an Integrated Undergraduate and Graduate University Teacher Education Study Program, an Undergraduate University Study Program in Early Childhood and Preschool Education, and a Graduate University Study Program in Early Childhood and Preschool Education. Postgraduate students can pursue further education through the doctoral study programme or specialist postgraduate programmes offered at the Faculty Headquarters in Zagreb. Additionally, an English Language Teacher Education Programme is offered, while a Lifelong Learning and Adult Education Teacher Education Programme is currently undergoing accreditation. Pursuant to the Statute of the Faculty of Teacher Education, the Branch is managed by the Vice-Dean for Business, Studies, and Student Affairs. In 2019, the Faculty of Teacher Education – Čakovec Branch celebrated two major jubilees: 140 years of teacher education in the city of Čakovec and 100 years of instruction in Croatian. Few institutions in Croatia boast such historic milestones, particularly within a small northwestern town like Čakovec. It can therefore be proudly asserted that this institution has navigated numerous existential tribulations, yet teacher education continues to thrive within the walls of the Čakovec Branch after 142 years. Given the turbulent history of Međimurje, during which it fell under various foreign regimes, the fact that teacher education has been conducted in the Croatian language for 102 years remains of paramount importance.
