Initiating the Procedure for Issuing an Ethics Committee Opinion for Research Projects and Other Studies
During the planning, execution, and reporting of research, investigators must adhere to the ethical principles outlined in the University of Zagreb Code of Ethics and the Rules of Procedure of the Ethics Committee of the University of Zagreb Faculty of Teacher Education. Should the proposed research involve children as participants, the provisions of the Code of Ethics for research with children must additionally be observed.
Researchers must request an opinion from the Faculty of Teacher Education Ethics Committee for all human subjects research conducted as part of research projects and doctoral dissertations.
Human subjects research conducted for specialist, master’s, bachelor’s, and seminar theses does not require Ethics Committee notification, unless the research concerns highly sensitive topics (e.g., peer violence, abuse) or involves vulnerable participant cohorts (e.g., children with special educational needs). The mentor guarantees adherence to ethical principles during the execution of such research; concomitantly, the informed consent form must explicitly state that participants harbouring objections to the research protocol may contact the Ethics Committee via email (eticko.povjerenstvo@ufzg.hr) to facilitate any necessary subsequent measures safeguarding participant rights and welfare.
Applications requesting an Ethics Committee opinion on the compliance of written materials with the Code of Ethics, for the purpose of registering research projects and other studies, must comprise the following:
- Petition to the Ethics Committee
- Ethics Committee Research Registration Form
Submissions pertaining to research projects and other studies not conducted within doctoral programs must be dispatched electronically, complete with all requisite documentation, to urudzbeni.zg[at]ufzg.hr bearing the subject line “For the Faculty of Teacher Education Ethics Committee”.
Submissions filed by Faculty of Teacher Education doctoral candidates must be dispatched electronically for registry filing to urudzbeni.ds[at]ufzg.hr, complete with all requisite documentation, bearing the subject line “For the Faculty of Teacher Education Ethics Committee – Doctoral Studies”.
Reporting a Breach of the Code of Ethics at the Faculty of Teacher Education
Any individual may report a breach of the Code of Ethics, including persons not directly prejudiced, provided the aggrieved party does not explicitly object.
Written reports are submitted to the Dean and/or the Faculty bodies responsible for the domain wherein the breach occurred. These reports must be factually substantiated, corroborated by foundational evidence, and include other data pivotal to forming an opinion (e.g., time, location, prospective witnesses).
The procedure for issuing an Ethics Committee opinion on the compliance of specific actions or conduct with the principles and regulations of the Code of Ethics is initiated by a written request from the Dean.
