The Chair of Science, Geography, and History constitutes one of the longest-standing chairs within the Faculty of Teacher Education at the University of Zagreb. It was established pursuant to a resolution of the Faculty Council on 20 December 2005, a date that marked the creation of individual academic chairs. By decree of the University of Zagreb Senate dated 13 February 2007, the Teacher Education Colleges in Čakovec and Petrinja were integrated into the Faculty of Teacher Education, initially operating as branches and subsequently reconstituted as departments. Both departments operate under the institutional aegis of the Faculty of Teacher Education, alongside their respective regional designations. Consequently, faculty members from the Čakovec and Petrinja branches who delivered modules in Natural Sciences, Geography, Croatian History, and the Teaching Methodology of Nature and Society were incorporated into a single Chair of Science, Geography, and History.
Currently, the Chair’s members deliver their respective course curricula to cultivate the research and professional competencies of future Masters of Primary Education and Masters of Early Childhood and Preschool Education.
Within the Primary Teacher Education and Preschool Teacher Education programmes, members of the Chair deliver instruction in Natural Sciences, Geography, and History, as well as various teaching methodology courses.
The historical provision of instruction in the Natural Sciences, Geography, History, and teaching methodologies at the Faculty of Teacher Education and its predecessor institutions (the Higher Pedagogical School, the College of Pedagogy, the Pedagogical Academy, and the Teacher Education Academy) featured the contributions of the following prominent Croatian educators and researchers:
