Teachers from the Faculty of Teacher Education at the International eTwinning ITE conference in Milan
The International eTwinning ITE conference Advancing basic skills and innovation through eTwinning for future teachers was organised in Milan, Italy, in the period November 27-29, 2025. The aim of the conference was to examine the role of eTwinning in promoting innovative teaching approaches and empowering future teachers with methods to develop and improve the skills the school context requires. These primarily involve literacy, mathematical and scientific literacy, digital competencies, and civic education.
Associate Professor Alenka Mikulec, PhD, Associate Professor Višnja Rajić, PhD, Associate Professor Ivana Milković, PhD, and Martina Budrović, a student, attended the conference as the representatives of the Faculty of Teacher Education, University of Zagreb. At the conference, Associate Professor Ivana Milković ran the workshop Literary Literacy: (e)Twinning Words, Worlds and Wonder, while Associate Professor Višnja Rajić delivered the lecture Erasmus+ Teacher Academies as a means of international co-creation.
Apart from a rich conference programme which included numerous quality lectures and workshops, we would like to point out that this year’s winners of the eTwinning European prize are our long-time associates from the University of Castilla-La Mancha, Faculty of Education in Albacete (Spain). The Faculty of Teacher Education, University of Zagreb, was one of 15 European initial teacher education institutions nominated for the European Prize, as well as one of 7 European institutions to have received the national prizes in all three assessed areas: curriculum integration, project implementation, and research outputs.

The Faculty of Teacher Education is the winner of the 2025 eTwinning National Prize
The Faculty of Teacher Education, University of Zagreb, is the winner of the 2025 National Prize for its work and engagement with students in eTwinning, in areas covering curriculum integration, project implementation, and research outputs.
The prize was awarded on November 11, 2025 at the national eTwinning Annual Conference, Citizenship education: celebrating what unites us. The conference was organized by the Agency for Mobility and EU programmes, marking 20 years of eTwinning.
Associate Professor Ivana Milković, eTwinning coordinator at the Faculty of Teacher Education, received the prize on behalf of the Faculty. At the conference, attended by more than 200 participants, she also delivered a lecture on the role and possibilities of eTwinning in initial teacher education.

eTwinning at the Faculty of Teacher Education: expert visits and international experiences for future preschool teachers
Part-time students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate studies Early Childhood and Preschool Education had the opportunity to participate in three inspiring visits by national and international experts within an elective course eTwinning and Teaching.
The first lecture, titled Discover eTwinning while at university, was delivered on May 10, 2025 by Andreja Sedlar, eTwinning Ambassador for early childhood and preschool education. She provided students with the basic information about the eTwinning platform, its goals, and opportunities it offers in the context of early childhood education.
Soon after that, on May 24, 2025, Andreja Sedlar delivered the second lecture, Digital tools in eTwinning in kindergartens, in which she presented concrete digital tools which can be applied in work with children, as well as their advantages in implementing projects in kindergartens.
The third lecture was held by an international expert, Professor Marzia Luzzini, PhD, eTwinning Ambassador and contact for eTwinning at the University of The Sacred Heart in Milan, Italy. She delivered a lecture in English, The Importance of Storytelling in Language Learning, on May 16, 2025. Professor Luzzini spoke about the importance of storytelling in early stages of language learning, and offered specific ideas on how to integrate stories in eTwinning projects.
All these lectures helped students and other interested attendees gain valuable insights into the examples of good practice, national and international eTwinning experiences, and numerous opportunities that this platform offers for early childhood and preschool education.

The Faculty of Teacher Education is the winner of the 2024 eTwinning European Prize for Teacher Education Institutions
This prestigious prize is a recognition of the Faculty of Teacher Education excellence in curriculum integration, project implementation, and research outputs.
Associate Professor Ivana Milković, PhD, eTwinning coordinator at the Faculty of Teacher Education, received the prize at the conference organised in Budapest, on November 28, 2024.
We are extremely proud of this success, and also motivated to continue expanding excellence in educating future teachers and working with international partners.

The Faculty of Teacher Education, University of Zagreb has been involved in the eTwinning initiative for teacher education institutions since 2020. Within this initiative, the Faculty regularly organises various activities to introduce the teaching and research and teaching staff and students in all study programmes to eTwinning, and also actively implements eTwinning projects.
Within the eTwinning initiative for students enrolled in study programmes in all three Faculty locations (Zagreb, Čakovec, and Petrinja), elective eTwinning courses have been offered, and students can opt for them during their study.
Nataša Ljubić Klemše, eTwinning and ITE Ambassador, organised a webinar for future English Language teachers at the Faculty of Teacher Education in Zagreb, on March 21, 2024. In her lecture, she emphasised the benefits of eTwinning and international projects for teachers and students involved in project-based learning. She also stressed the opportunities eTwinning offers for lifelong learning and professional development, as well as networking opportunities with education experts from the European Union.
Andreja Sedlar, eTwinning Ambassador, delivered an introductory lecture about eTwinning for part-time students in Early Childhood and Preschool Education Study in Zagreb on May 23, 2024. The title of the lecture was eTwinning and kindergarten? By all means!. On the following day, May 24, 2024, she ran a workshop about web tools, titled eTwinning: from web tools to digital competences. In these lectures, students gained an insight into examples of good practice and benefits offered by eTwinning.
Professor Marzia Luzzini, eTwinning Ambassador and contact person for eTwinning at the University of the Sacred Heart in Milan, Italy, delivered a lecture about eTwinning for part-time students in Early Childhood and Preschool Education Study in Zagreb titled eTwinning in Early Childhood Education, on Friday, May 24, 2024. The students had the opportunity to see how good eTwinning projects can be successfully implemented in early childhood and preschool education institutions. Professor Luzzini also presented interesting ideas for eTwinning projects for preschoolers.
Autumn eTwinning events at the Faculty of Teacher Education, University of Zagreb
Within an elective course eTwinning and Teaching, our Faculty hosted two distinguished eTwinning Ambassadors during the autumn semester 2024. They introduced students to modern forms of professional development through international cooperation in education.
On October 31, 2024, Nataša Ljubić Klemše, PhD, excellent teacher advisor and eTwinning Ambassador was a guest lecturer within the course, and she delivered a lecture for future teachers titled eTwinning – opportunities for future teachers. In her extremely inspiring lecture, she pointed out the advantages of engaging in eTwinning projects during study, emphasising the development of digital competencies, intercultural sensibility, and professional cooperation.
Andreja Sedlar, eTwinning Ambassador, continued the series of lectures, and on November 12, 2024, she delivered a lecture for students in Early Childhood and Preschool Education Study and Primary Teacher Education Study titled What students should know about eTwinning. Presenting concrete examples of good practice, she introduced students to the possibilities of engaging in the eTwinning community, encouraging them to examine their own future role in international projects in the field of education.

The Faculty of Teacher Education is the winner of the 2023 eTwinning National Prize for work with students
The Faculty of Teacher Education is the winner of the eTwinning National Prize for work with students in the areas of curriculum integration and project implementation in 2023. Associate Professor Alenka Mikulec, PhD and Associate Professor Ivana Milković, Phd, eTwinning coordinator at the Faculty of Teacher Education in Zagreb, received the prize on behalf of the Faculty. The two professors, together with Sara Šebalj, a student, presented the benefits of eTwinning for students at the round table titled eTwinning at European School Education Platform – a community of teachers and future primary and preschool teachers. The round table was held within the eTwinning Annual Conference Education and Innovation – Being Creative with eTwinning, organized by the Agency for Mobility and EU programmes:

Presentation of project collaboration in eTwinning
Ana Pavlić, senior expert advisor for school education with the Agency for Mobility and EU programmes (AMPEU), presented the opportunities for international project collaboration in eTwinning during the Week of International Education at the Faculty of Teacher Education, on November 15, 2022. Associate Professor Ivana Milković, Phd, eTwinning coordinator at the Faculty of Teacher Education, University of Zagreb, joined her in presenting the projects in which the Faculty of Teacher Education is currently involved.
